Walls and Skin is situated at the Kalkmarkt 1, on the corner of the Prins Hendrik kade next to number 156. The zip code here is 1011BC, Amsterdam.
Like everything is old in Amsterdam, so is the building we are situated in.
The bricks stacked on top of each other forming the space we work and laugh in was property of Michiel de Ruyter.
He was de Admiral of the Dutch fleet and loved by his men because he lacked hierarchy…. he was one of the guys. He also freed a number of christian slaves, which makes him a hero rather then a pirate.
Michiel de Ruyter painted by Ferdinand Bol in 1667
Who knew then that we would use his building to make artwork real seamen love and cherish.
Michiel de Ruyter on the old Dutch 100 Guilder bill…. so you know we are talking the real thing he was a famous man here.
The drawing is probably made after he was a bit older seeing a fat head like that for a pirate is not what we imagine ourselves.
So if you want to get a tattoo experience in a great building with real history…..make an appointment.
